Domain name locking services now available

Domain name locking prevents unauthorized registrar transfers, RSP (Registration Service Provider) transfers and DNS changes to domain names. The name locking control is accessed through the domain name management console. Currently, only .COM, .NET, .ORG, .BIZ and .INFO domain names can be locked.

The locking feature offers customers the ability to prevent:

• Registrar transfer away from Tucows/OpenSRS
• RSP transfer away from Internet Connection
• DNS changes

If a customer desires any of the above for their domain name, the name must first be unlocked.

Unsolicited domain name renewal offers from third parties

We would like to advise you of a business practice that is becoming common in the domain marketplace and which may result in you inadvertently transferring your domain business away from Internet Connection.

With increasing frequency, outside companies are making unsolicited offers directed domain name owners that do not use their services. It has been brought to our attention that these letters have been causing a great deal of confusion among our customers.

It is of the utmost importance that you ignore ALL communications regarding your domain name registrations except those sent directly from IC Domain Name / Internet Connection.

We hope to clear up any confusion at this time.

The Trick
A company will send a letter to you, either by email, or via the postal service, thanking you for registering or renewing your domain name. The letter will also invite you, in language that suggests a prior business relationship, to make some change to your domain, or to simply renew it, which will result in the name being transferred away from and to the new company.

Protecting Your Domain Name Registration
We recommend taking the following steps to ensure that you aren't inadvertently deceived by these solicitations:

1. Ignore ANY communication regarding your domain name registration that is not from IC Domain Names / Internet Connection.
2. Report any incidents to us directly at domain-fraud@icdomainnames.com.
3. Send us a sample of any solicitation letters as evidence.

4. Report the incident by filing it with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. Here is their Mail Fraud Complaint Form.
